We know you’ll have been busy with the serious business of calculating probabilities to back a winner, but Royal Ascot is at least half about the outfit and, more to the point, the head candy.
Move over equine beasts and enter, then, the milliners, for it is these often-flamboyant creations that give the Ascot its je ne sais quoi.
A hat may well be the difference between looking good and feeling spectacular, and it is in pursuit of just such sparkling form that Jess Collett has been creating marvellous millinery in her Notting Hill atelier since 1999. Here she crafts each piece individually to make sure the finished product is as sensational as the people that wear them.
Her new SS14 collection ‘Japanese Garden’ includes the use of pheasant feathers amongst others, and is stylish as ever. You can expect to pay between £260 and £900.

Jess learnt her craft from one of the masters of millinery, Edwina Ibbotsen. She furthered her technique at Kensington and Chelsea College. She founded her atelier in Notting Hill in 1999 and since then has worked with couture designers including Lindka Cierach and Ulrich Engler to create bespoke pieces to complement individual styles and outfits. Jess takes a multidisciplinary approach to her practice and has collaborated with a range of distinguished designers such as superstar florist Ercole Moroni, the Queen of lingerie, Damaris and the luxury costume jewellery label, Bex Rox. Although her work has graced the heads of Royalty and film actresses Jess aims to make everyone feel a million dollars.
All the pieces are individually crafted and hand made in the studio in Notting Hill, London and the core to her homegrown practice is founded upon high quality and impeccable finish. Jess employs traditional millinery techniques fused with contemporary styling and materials to deliver a signature style that is wearable and authentic yet modern. The exhibitionist will find striking pieces and the less confident will be charmed by headwear that tenderly encourages a subtle new expression of their style.
